Solitomb - 1.1 update and future plans

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that the 1.1 update for Solitomb is out! This is the final content update for the PICO-8 version. After this, I'm switching to the enhanced PC version full-time (read on for more information on that).

This update includes:

  • 2 new elite monsters: iron golems and evil eyes, with devious new abilities
  • 5 new abilities: ranging from utility ones like "stun" and "keen senses" to synergistic ones like "aggressive stance" or "powerstone" that enable new ways to build your character
  • mobile play improvements: the game should now play more naturally on phones/tablets
  • a "forgiving" difficulty level: a new, lower difficulty tier for people starting out and wanting an easier on-ramp into the game
  • rebalancing: affecting some abilities and how the game plays on the lowest difficulties
  • gameplay changes: the most significant one being Splinterslimes merging back when stacked - done to prevent easy infinite combos using their ability, but also to prevent getting your table completely flooded with slime cards
  • UI fixes: improving how the game plays on all devices

Getting all of this to fit within PICO-8 constraints has been a challenge, but also tons of fun. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I consider this the "director's cut" for the PICO-8 version. From now on, future changes will likely be smaller bugfix patches, if necessary.

Future plans

That's not the end of the road for Solitomb, though! I've already started working on Seal of Solitomb, a bigger and bolder execution of the same concept. You can find more information about it on the Steam page linked above, but the main points are:

  • More stuff to get, try and do - way more monsters, way more abilities, more character classes and card types, more synergies
  • Additions like different environments to play in, bosses, unique cards for the character classes
  • A campaign mode that takes you out of the dungeon
  • A daily/weekly challenge mode so you can test your skills against others
  • And, of course, a huge graphics, music and user interface overhaul to make the game worthy of a full PC release

It's still early days, but I'm super-excited and can't wait to try all the ideas that just wouldn't fit in a PICO-8 cartridge. Thank you all for playing and supporting the game - getting to do the big version is the best feeling in the world.

If you're a Solitomb fan, wishlisting and following Seal of Solitomb on Steam is the best way to make sure you won't miss any updates and helps get the game into Steam's good graces.

Thanks for reading and see you in the dungeon!
